SOUTHERN NEVADA — Following a week of unusually warm temperatures in the upper 90s, Southern Nevada is on high alert as the National Weather Service (NWS) announced a Flood Watch and Wind Advisory for the Las Vegas Valley. The alerts, issued on Friday afternoon, October 9, 2026, signal an impending shift in weather patterns as tropical moisture from the south moves into the region.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel are expected to affect the Mojave Desert basin starting late Saturday and continuing through early next week, bringing the risk of intense localized downpours and wind gusts that may reach up to 55 mph. The NWS warns that these storm conditions could result in flash flooding, especially in areas like the Las Vegas Urban Core, Henderson, and Spring Valley, where flood control districts are on standby.
