On October 5, Rep. Dina Titus hosted a roundtable discussion in Las Vegas to address the increasing safety issues related to the rise of e-bikes and e-scooters in Southern Nevada. The meeting, held at the Regional Transportation Commission’s Bonneville Transit Center, included various stakeholders such as law enforcement, medical professionals, educators, transit officials, and community advocates.
Participants focused on the alarming rise in injuries associated with these devices, emphasizing the need for protective measures for riders, pedestrians, and drivers. Data revealed that by mid-July, Sunrise Hospital had reported 424 traumatic injuries linked to e-bikes and e-scooters, while University Medical Center recorded 271 injuries, including cases involving children. In response, Titus introduced the MOVE Act to push for federal safety initiatives. Local jurisdictions are also taking steps, with Clark County and Las Vegas implementing new regulations aimed at enhancing safety.
