Bugsy the pelican, a cherished resident of the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat, has passed away. He was a prominent and adored figure at the habitat since his arrival in September 2012, alongside another rescue pelican named Virginia, who died in 2021. According to Caesars Entertainment, Bugsy’s death occurred in July due to kidney failure, which followed years of being lovingly cared for by the habitat staff.
Bugsy, the longest-living rehabilitated animal at the habitat, was initially rescued after becoming entangled in fishing nets in Southern California. Over his 14 years at the Flamingo, he brought joy to countless visitors. The habitat plans to welcome two new pelicans, Benny and Billy, although Caesars has not yet confirmed this. Bugsy’s life is remembered as one of second chances, reflecting the nurturing care provided to him in captivity.
